11 Things You Should Never Do When Traveling to Mexico

8) Don’t Carry Large Bills

When you arrive in a foreign country you either exchange cash for the local currency or withdraw from an ATM. Usually it’s a large sum of money and you’re given large bills. You may not think this is a problem, but it can create inconveniences. When you want to buy small items like water or snacks, you may find that these places can’t make change for your larger bills. Mom and Pop shops don’t have much cash on hand. These are not 7-11’s. If you try to pay the taxi driver with a large note, you may clean him out of all his change or he may not be able make change it at all. This puts both parties in an awkward position. Try to break your big bills at the hotels and large restaurants, and save your small bills for smaller transactions.
