11 Things You Should Never Do When Traveling to Mexico

11) Don’t Expect Western Customs and Comforts ALL the Time

In a four or five-star resort you’ve got everything you need, and then some. Mexico certainly knows how to cater to the clientele who come for luxurious all-inclusiveness. Food and alcohol flow freely and the customer service is excellent. Step outside the well-developed tourist towns though, and you’ll notice these luxuries start to fade away. Don’t take your modern hotel toilet for granted. In small town restaurants, you may find the porcelain bowl is missing the flip-down seat. Squatting over the bowl is the accepted thing to do. Also, toilet paper should be thrown in the trash, not flushed down the toilet. Mexican plumbing doesn’t always work at the highest capacity. Another custom that may seem unusual is a waiter won’t assume to know you want the bill until you ask for it. When you’re ready to call it a night, just wave them down and ask for the check.
