7) Don’t Be Shy About Bargaining
Americans generally aren’t used to walking into a store and haggling down the price of something if it doesn’t suit their budget or expectations. In fact, even in places where it is acceptable to do so, like a Mexican market for example, many people are downright uncomfortable doing it. Don’t shy away from a little haggling while you’re shopping the local markets. It’s perfectly acceptable and actually expected. Just remain respectful and friendly, so you don’t offend anyone. Those working in the markets expect to make price adjustments. Often the initial price is set much higher than what they’re willing to settle for; sometimes as much as 50%.
