11 Steps to the Perfect Staycation

YardWings_730x350Relax in the sun with a cocktail, go to the park, eat at the best restaurants in town, see a concert or sports event – you don’t need to spend a lot of money travelling somewhere to do these wonderful things.  One of the simplest and most effective ways to reduce your family’s annual spending is to do away with your annual vacation and try the latest lifestyle trend – the staycation. When executed properly, a staycation can be just as enjoyable, as relaxing or as horizon-broadening as a vacation abroad. The staycation is your opportunity to do all that, and more.

1) Take Time From Work – No Homework Either!

Most people find that the hardest thing about executing the perfect staycation is drawing a line between work time and vacation time. No matter how hard people try, they can’t seem to break away from bringing work home with them, even if it’s just checking emails or taking a short, work-related phone call.

When you leave home for a vacation it’s quite easy to leave work behind — all you need to do is turn off your devices or leave them at home. It isn’t as difficult to be “off the grid” when you’re away. Being at home, however, makes it a little harder to implement this discipline.
Our advice is to adopt the same principles on a staycation as you would on a regular vacation. Set up out-of-office alerts on your email and shove your laptop, tablet and phone in a drawer somewhere. If you can’t bear to part with your devices, then turn off the wifi and put temporary blocks on work-related calls and texts.
