As we touched on before, among the many risks of using “free wi-fi” on an unencrypted network can implant a virus, malware, or ransomware. The possibility of the device you are using becoming corrupted or damaged beyond repair or any use is a constant threat. These days when new smart phones alone are going for north of a grand, most of us can ill afford to replace a phone, or worse a laptop or tablet that can cost much more. Millennial’s seem to be online 24/7, whether it’s social media or gaming. Most are only too glad to take advantage of “free wi-fi”. But not taking the proper precautions on a public wi-fi network can cost you dearly. Imagine you are sitting in your favorite coffee shop about to finish a term paper you’ve worked on for a month. Then “boom” it’s either gone or being held ransom by someone who couldn’t care less how broke you are.
