4) Ransomware
Ransomware is the latest craze in malicious software that will lock up your computer until a specified sum is paid to the cyber criminal who sent it. Usually a 1-800 number will pop-up for you to call and pay. However, anyone with a little know how should be able to restore their system. It’s a pain, but it can be done. Try re-booting your pc in safe-mode and hopefully you set a restore point. More advanced malware uses a technique called cryptoviral extortion, in which it encrypts the victim’s files, making them inaccessible, and demands a ransom payment to decrypt them. This one is particularly nasty, forcing you to either pay the ransom, or abandon your device and all the information on it. Major corporations all over the globe have been attacked with ransomware and it seems to be growing in popularity.
