The simplest explanation of this is information is intercepted between your device and the wi-fi access point you are using, making the victim’s device think the hacker is the access point. A Man in the Middle attack is a method of eavesdropping to gain enough of your information to steal what they want from you. Free wi-fi is an all you can eat buffet for cyber criminals and they count on the fact that most free wi-fi networks are unencrypted. So, they have little or no problem inserting themselves between you and where you think you’re connected to. You can protect yourself against this and other intrusions by setting up a VPN (Virtual Private Network) on your computer.
