5) Gullfoss, Iceland
Located on the Hvítá (White River) in southwest Iceland, Gullfoss waterfall is just 100 foot high. However, its geology is so unique that it ranks among the most beautiful waterfalls in the world. A double waterfall, Gullfoss is formed by the procession of the wide Hvítá that turns sharply to the right and pools into a curved, stepped area before cascading abruptly down two massive crevices. In summer, when parts of the glacial landscape melt and Iceland receives regular rain, Gullfoss Falls becomes the largest volume waterfall in Europe. A popular tourist attraction in Iceland, visitors often tour Gullfoss as part of a ‘Golden Circle’ tour that takes in the geysers of Haukadalur and Þingvellir.
