2) Iguazu Falls, bordering Brazil and Argentina

Legend has it that when she first laid eyes on Iguazu Falls, First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt exclaimed, ‘poor Niagara!’ The Iguazu Falls, situated on the border between Brazil and Argentina, is not one waterfall, not three waterfalls (like Niagara), but 257 waterfalls in one. Most of the individual cascading streams are around 210 foot high. The most impressive of all the falls is said to be the unusually-shaped Devil’s Throat which falls in the shape of a U and is 2300 foot long. The name ‘Iguazu’ in the native Guarani or Tupi language simply means ‘big water’ and the first record of the fall’s existence was made in 1541 by the Spanish conquistador Cabeza de Vaca.
