10) Yosemite Falls, United States
Yosemite Falls is the tallest waterfall in North America and is located in Yosemite National Park in California. It’s a tough climb to get to the top of the falls in that dry California heat but those who make it to the end of the day-long hike will be rewarded by unrivaled views of Yosemite Park and the Sierra Mountains beyond. The Ahwahneechee First Nations people who once lived around the base of the falls believed that the pool of the falls was haunted by witches. As legend has it, a woman who drew water from the pool found only snakes in her bucket and was later blown away, house, baby and all, by a strong gust of wind. The best time to see the falls are when they’re at their most thunderous just after the winter thaw.
