7) Sardinia, Italy
Located in the Mediterranean off the coast of Italy, Sardinia experiences moderate temperatures and beautiful year round weather. With an average high in the 70’s in the summer and 50’s in the winter, this island is a perfect vacation spot all year long and boasts more than 1,000 miles of beautiful beaches. There is a lot of history around the island, some believing that the mines in the north go back as far as 6,000 years. Historic ruins from the Roman era can be seen at Tharros in the north. Odd structures called Nuraghi can be seen about 45 miles north of Cagliari. These unique structures are only found on Sardinia, and there are as many as 8,000 of them. No one really knows their original purpose. The capital city, Cagliari, also has some fortress ruins from the days of the Romans, which are worth seeing.
