7) Don’t Stay Idle
Leaving your car idling is an easy way to waste a lot of gas without realizing it. Within a span of 15 minutes of idling, you can use a quart of gas. If you have to leave your car for a few minutes, you will save more gas by turning it off then back on rather than leaving it on the entire time. Idling is also often seen as part of warming a car up, but in reality most modern cars do not require more than a few seconds to get their engines running and ready to go. Additionally, the engine warms up faster while driving than while idling, so it makes more sense to start driving sooner, although perhaps slower for the first few seconds, in order to warm the car up completely.
