11 Most Mysterious Places in the U.S.

1) Sailing Stones
An extremely strange phenomenon exists in Race Track Playa in Death Valley National Park, California. Rocks move across the dry valley ground without any human or animal intervention. These rocks, which range anywhere from a few ounces to hundreds of pounds, leave an obvious, tell-tale trail in their wake. How is this possible? The answer lies in science. In 2014, scientists announced a possible reason for the bizarre movements; a combination of natural forces, including ice, water, and wind. The found rain collects in the dry lake bed, then temperatures drop and the water freezes, creating a thin layer of ice. The ice breaks up and the wind pushes the ice slates, which in turn pushes the rocks (which have tumbled down from surrounding mountains). The change in direction of the wind also changes the direction in which the rocks are pushed, sometimes creating strange and seemingly random tracks.
