Not to be confused with our #2 Horseshoe Canyon, this special spot on the Colorado River is simply amazing due to its unique shape. Officially located in Arizona, Horseshoe Bend is a stunning piece of naturally carved architecture in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. The horseshoe-shaped canyon is starting to get more attention, as those seeking out the Grand Canyon (a few miles away) are stopping at Horseshoe Bend for the awesome photo opps. It’s accessible via a 1.5-mile hike from the highway and suddenly you’re standing on the edge of the world. View the uniquely shaped canyon from 1,000 feet up, looking down on the mighty Colorado River and soaking in the panoramic beauty. Visit in the mid-morning when the sun is high in sky. The river is out of the canyon’s shadows, as the sun is fully reflecting off the orange canyon walls and sparkling river below.
