This country is the GPI’s rising star, improving it’s 2015 ranking of 9th to its 2016 ranking of 5th. Portugal’s ranking is based on its improving political climate after adjusting to European Union (EU) and International Monetary Fund (IMF) processes. Portugal also improved in several other categories including the likelihood of violent demonstrations, political disturbances, and political terror scale. Portugal demonstrated the largest improvement in the entire European region. Other than being a peaceful country, Portugal is a stunning place to travel through. Probably best known for its gorgeously rugged coastlines and quaint red-roofed abodes, this country is an absolute gem that often gets overlooked for nearby Spain and France. DON’T make this mistake! The capital, Lisbon, is the place for day hikes. Algarve is famous for its beaches. Ever heard of Port wine? Wine enthusiasts cannot miss tasting tours around Porto.
