8) San Juan Islands, Washington
The Pacific Northwest region of the states has some of the most beautiful and scenic islands in the country. San Juan Islands, just off the coast of Washington State, is no exception. Spring and summer are the nicest times to visit. The weather is the mildest, making the many outdoor activities much more pleasant. April – October are the best months for spotting Orca, Humpback, and Minke whales on a whale-watching tour. Cycle around the island and enjoy sweeping views of lavender terraces, green pastures with grazing sheep and cows, and local vineyards. Friday Harbor is a lovely place for a leisurely stroll. Bookshops, antique shops, and art galleries draw window shoppers while the cafes and restaurants tempt visitors with coffee or a fresh seafood meal. Rent or bring your car and enjoy scenic drives through the farmlands, along the coastline past some iconic landmarks.
