5) Marco Island, Florida
On the Gulf Coast just below Naples sits the largest of Florida’s Ten Thousand Islands, Marco Island. The plethora of mangroves and the shallow, labyrinth-like water channels support thousands of species of marine life. Boaters will love discovering the area by exploring all the winding waterways. Although Marco is connected to the mainland via bridge, it still emits the desirable island vibe sought after by vacationers. There are several beaches with miles of sandy shores, perfect for a family day at the beach. Check out Tigertail or South Marco Beach for some of the nicest, cleanest, and most pristine shorelines. Fishing is a big draw in this area, with plenty of day-tours promising plentiful catch. Curious to see what lurks in the dense mangroves? Embark on an adventurous kayak eco-tour and explore the northern part of Everglades National Park.
