The statue is a symbol of freedom and democracy for many migrants who came to the United States in search of a better life. France gave the statue to the U.S. to celebrate their friendship. It was dedicated in 1886 and designated as a National Monument in the year of 1924. When you purchase tickets to the monument, you will be taken to both Liberty Island and Ellis Island. Go inside the Statue of Liberty and get a glimpse of the first sign of freedom for many migrants from around the world.
