Arlington is another city on this list that sits on the Virginia border and is in very close proximity to Washington, DC. Arlington is an urban oasis with some of the top public schools in the nation. It is a vibrant and diverse city with even more assorted options for dining, shopping, and living. Residents can find everything from neighborhoods with great houses to funky or expansive apartments. Government jobs are plentiful and most happen to pay extremely well. Because of this, Arlington boasts a high medium income and therefore is not a cheap place to live. The benefits to this are a plentiful number of local amenities and historical sites. One of the most vast and beautiful cemeteries, the Arlington Nation Cemetery, can be found here as well as the Tomb of the Unknowns. Arlington is also home to the Pentagon.
