13) Charlottesville
Charlottesville sits just about mid-way between Washington, DC and the capital of Richmond, VA. This makes it an ideal and central location to live and still have easy access to all that the Eastern part of the state of Virginia has to offer. Charlottesville sits at the foothills of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains and the Rivanna River, making it a perfect place to see and take in all of the natural surroundings it has to offer. It was established as an independent city in 1888 and is only a little over 10 square miles, offering a small town feel. On the outskirts of Charlottesville, farms and rolling hills abound. Closer to town, beautiful brick and cobblestones cover the streets of this quaint town with shops and businesses. Free concerts are offered at both the Charlottesville Pavilion and the Batesville County Store and are a local favorite. Local restaurants are numerous and offer a wide variety of delicious food and drink.
