Chantilly is named after a colonial plantation from the 1700’s. The Battle of Chantilly during the Civil War also took place here and plays into the historic heritage of this important town. Chantilly is part of Fairfax County and approximately 25 miles from Washington, DC making a commute into the city manageable, but also rather time consuming with traffic. It is home to the quite popular Dulles International Airport which makes coming and going to Chantilly from other locations extremely easy and accessible. Local organizations include the Ellanor C. Lawrence Park, which houses nature trails, fitness stations and athletic fields including soccer, baseball and softball fields, and the Flat Lick Valley Stream Park. Chantilly is also home to some riveting attractions such as the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center and the Sully Plantation. There is a local public library as well as a local newspaper called The CentreView.
