7) Jimi Hendrix Memorial
A memorial in Greenwood Cemetery was established after it became clear that the simple, non-descript headstone would not suffice for the many fans who flocked to the location to pay tribute to their idol. Now more of a shrine, Hendrix’s memorial is covered with guitar picks and scarves from those who want to pay their respects. A marble gazebo was erected, a dome of stone atop three pillars. Hendrix’s body was relocated to under this new memorial after his father finally won the battle for rights to his music. Standing in the centre of the tasteful monument is a portrait of Jimi Hendrix, etched into the stone along with many of his lyrics. Standing this close to the spirit of such a rock sensation will bring tears to the eyes of guitar and rock fans from around the world.
