6) East Jesus Sculpture Garden
East Jesus Sculpture Gardens is totally off the grid for a number of many reasons. Travel north by car toward Palm Springs and you’ll find this unusual town off Highway 111. The name of the town, East Jesus, is alluring enough for some. A California “hippie haven,” this is where ingenious local artists turn nothing into something magnificent. The sculpture garden of East Jesus has works of undiscovered local talent who have created art pieces and sculptures out of salvaged scrap iron and recycled materials. The artwork you would see here is certainly art museum worthy or a city park. But artists who live and work here are true iconoclasts and give little thought to what outside society may provide. They appear content with life off the grid and within their own space and autonomy.
