Smack in the middle of a long line of islands, Guadeloupe sets itself apart with its French-influenced culture. Surprisingly, round trip flights from NYC costs less than $300. Guadeloupe has a plethora of things to do, ranging from relaxing by the beach to exploring the jungle. The Guadeloupe National Park is over 74,000-acres of rainforest, walking trails, waterfalls and is also home to the La Soufrière volcano. Entrance is free. Day trip it to the cluster of nearby islands known as Les Saintes or take off on a quiet getaway to La Désirade or Marie-Galante. Guadeloupe’s shopping epi-center is undoubtedly Pointe-à-Pitre. This is the best place to purchase discounted French goodies like perfume and apparel. If your goal is to kick back, enjoy some fine dining, and chill-out on the beach, there’s plenty of that too! Guadeloupe doesn’t have the cheapest accommodations; however super basic digs start under $100/night.
