Montego Bay is great if you’re content with spending the majority of your holiday in one of the many big resorts lining the beach. This area is known for its all-inclusive deals and there isn’t a whole lot more going on outside the resort’s boundaries. If you’re not into the package scene, skip Montego Bay and head 80 kilometers west to Negril. This area has a lot more character and local charm than Montego. Enjoy miles of sand at Seven Mile Beach, dine at a seaside cliff restaurant, scuba dive, snorkel, or join a deep-sea fishing charter. Forty kilometers east is Roaring River Park, where you can explore the limestone cave, and take a dip in the sinkhole. Two and three-star beachside hotels start around $65/night. A three-course meal in a mid-range restaurant will run you under $10. Add a domestic beer for a buck.
