6) Whiteface Lake Placid
Home to the 1980 Winter Olympics, Whiteface Mountain, Lake Placid is the fifth highest mountain in the state of New York. One of the highest peaks of the Adirondack Mountain range, Whiteface Mountain offers an unbeatable 360-degree view of the surrounding area and on a clear day visitors can even see all the way to the Montreal skyline. The highest summit of any eastern ski resort, Whiteface is popular with skiers who also want to experience snow tubing, ice skating and even bobsled-racing. Whiteface consists of 87 runs spread over 314 acres of snowy terrain and features black and double-black diamond slopes. All this and only a five hour car ride or six hour bus ride from New York City.
