3) Rhine River
A river cruise will often be a wonderful option for seniors. Because of the very leisurely pace, river journeys offer great opportunities to see the countryside; and the Rhine has some of the most beautiful landscapes in the world. Most cruises either start and/or end in Amsterdam. You don’t have to leave the ship to enjoy spectacular sites, like Lorelei Rock, where, according to folklore, an alluring siren enticed hapless seamen to their deaths. The middle Rhine, in particular, has scenery so beautiful that you will barely be able to take in the splendor. If you’re eager to disembark, however, you can walk in beautiful cities like Cologne and Heidelberg, with their Gothic cathedrals and medieval architecture. If you go in November and December, you’ll be able to relish in the Holiday atmosphere of winter fetes and fairs.
