The country of Italy is one of the most popular places for people to visit in the world. Thirty-nine million people visiting Italy each year, and about two million of those tourists are from America. Italians generally have a positive view of their American visitors. In Pew Research Center’s study, 61% of Italians surveyed said they had a favorable view of Americans. People in Italy are generally friendly and happy to help you out if you need directions or tips. They’ll be especially happy to help you if you make the effort to use some Italian words and phrases. If you make Italian friends and go out to dinner with them, be aware that dinner is a leisurely affair, sometimes lasting several hours. Sit back and enjoy the slower-paced life, and have fun making friends with the locals you meet.
