Whenever you’re moving to or visiting a new place, it’s always important to look at the city’s crime statistics. You’ll want to look at the city’s crime rate in total, and you’ll also want to check out the crime rate in individual neighborhoods. To help keep people safe and informed, the FBI has put together a list of the most dangerous cities in the US as of 2016. This list only includes cities that have 200,000 residents or more. The list states how many violent crimes each city has per 1,000 residents and the number of violent crimes in each city in total. Here are the top eleven most dangerous cities in the United States according to the FBI.
1) Detroit, MI
The city of Detroit experienced 13,705 violent crimes in 2016. In total, there were 20 violent crimes per 1,000 residents. Detroit has been experiencing revitalization in recent years, and many new homes and developments are being built to entice new residents. However, many areas of Detroit are still dangerous to visit. One of the most dangerous neighborhoods in Detroit is Lyndon Street / W Outer Drive. In this neighborhood, there are 60 violent crimes per 1,000 residents. W. Chicago / Livernois Avenue is also very dangerous. In this area, there are 149 crimes per 1,000 residents, and there’s a 1 in 7 chance of becoming a victim of a crime. While Downtown Detroit is becoming more and more revitalized, these neighborhoods are continuing to struggle. Because of this, the FBI ranked Detroit as the most dangerous city in the US.
