4) Sit Close to the Gate
Sit as close as possible to the gate when boarding begins. If they make the announcement that they need volunteers, you want to be ready. You may not be the only person willing to delay travel plans for a possible free flight in the future. Sitting close to the agent ensures you are first to jump at the opportunity. Even if you have discussed your willingness with the agent ahead of time, it’s best to show your face again once the announcement’s been made. If you’re the first to give up your seat for a flight when the airline was struggling to find volunteers, the airline may be so appreciative that they will increase the initial amount of the perk just to be nice. Oftentimes, you may receive a free flight to an exotic destination you otherwise may not have been able to pay for.
