2) Check the Calendar
The biggest chance of getting bumped falls on the busiest fly days, like Mondays, Fridays, and during the holidays. Holidays are the busiest and most stressful time of the year for airlines. There’s a large increase of passengers, many of whom are on tight schedules and unlikely to be flexible. Of course, you don’t want to be late to Thanksgiving dinner any more than anyone else. So, instead of booking the flight that gets you to your destination at the last possible minute (i.e. arriving for that big New Year’s Eve party on the evening of December 31st), give yourself some wiggle room and book one or two days before. This will still be considered “busy” time, but now you can afford to give up your seat without ruining your plans.
