11) Be Nice
Last, but certainly not least, be nice to the gate agent. They’re already having a hard time because of the issue of rebooking and the delay it’s causing. Being friendly and polite will go a long way, especially when the person behind the desk has the power to bump you into an empty first-class seat on your new flight if they want (ask about an upgrade!). Overall, if you had a good experience with the staff and the airline generously compensated you for what was ultimately their mistake (overbooking in the first place), help them out by writing a nice online review on TripAdvisor or the like. They scratch your back, you scratch theirs, and everyone leaves happy, especially you; you’ve got yourself a free ticket for your next vacation.
