6) Newton, Massachusetts
This Boston suburb is the perfect place to live for those who love a big, exciting city, but don’t want to live in the thick of it. Located just 7 quick miles from downtown Boston, Newton offers residents lots of fun things to do in town, as well as the opportunity to get out if you so desire. Active people will love Hammond Pond Reservation, Crystal Lake, and Nahanton Park, all of which are lovely nature areas boasting loads of trails for hiking and opportunities for fishing, boating and rock climbing. It’s also a very scenic town with historic landmarks like the Echo Bridge, which crosses the Charles River to connect Newton and Needham. Living here means exposure to some seriously cool history like the Jackson Homestead – a stop on the Underground Railroad- and the Durant-Kenrick House which dates backs to the 17th century.
