5) Costa Rica
Costa Rica is an affordable paradise in Central America. The small country has it all — jungles, mountains and beaches. Travelers who enjoy white water rafting can go for a relaxing trip on the class I rapids of the peaceful Penas Blancas River, or test their skills on the more challenging class III-IV Pacuare River. If that doesn’t sound challenging enough, the Naranjo River rapids are rated class IV+ with nine technical narrows and tight canyon squeezes. Thanks to the abundant jungle, canopy zip line tours are available in many locations. The canopy tour in the Arenal Reserve offers not just views of the rainforest, but also the Arenal Volcano. At Parque Aventura de San Luis, if zip lining isn’t enough of a thrill, visitors can do the Tarzan Swing attached to a cable after leaping off a platform.
