7. The Alamo – San Antonio
“Remember the Alamo” isn’t just a historic phrase, it’s a staple in the proud culture of Texans. Any history fan should see this monument and enjoy one of their guided tours to get even more insight into the background of the mission. This historic site offers three different types of tours including the Battlefield (an historic interpreter guides the tour and answers questions), Audio (45 minute recorded tour with sound effects and interviews) and finally the Group, Private and After Hours tours that can be booked through The Alamo directly. Along with the tours, The Alamo boasts different temporary exhibits that highlight Texas history. Once you’ve finished the tour make sure to walk over to the Centennial Museum that was built to celebrate and honor 100 years of Texas independence. This museum now houses The Alamo gift shop, which allows you to take a little piece of Texas history home with you.
