6) The Wave Organ, San Francisco
Located on a jetty that comprises the San Francisco Marina District’s Boat Harbor, the jetty itself was constructed with demolition materials from a nearby cemetery. The pieces are made of an amazing assortment of marble and granite along with 25 PVC organ pipes. The pipes and concrete were placed at various elevations, taking into account the rise and fall of the tides. The sound is created by the waves crashing against the ends of the pipes, along with the tide waters flowing in and out. When you listen, it may seem very subtle at first, but once you tune your ears, you’ll be in for an amazing treat as nature serenades you by the sea. It’s recommended to visit during high tide to experience the best sounds the organ can make.
