San Francisco is known for its beautiful bayside views, world-class museums, historic homes and bridges, and lovely parks. While most of the city is very safe for visitors and locals, there are a few areas you’ll want to skip, including Visitacion Valley. Located in the southern part of the city, this neighborhood has a 14% higher crime rate than the rest of San Francisco. They report 7,024 crimes per 100,000 people annually, and 811 of these are violent crimes. For San Francisco as a whole, there are 6,152 crimes per 100,000 people and 711 violent crimes. AreaVibes gave Visitacion Valley a Livability ranking of 49, much lower than San Francisco’s total score of 64. When you’re in the City by the Bay, it’s a good idea to avoid this neighborhood.
