2) M&M Diner – Cookeville
One of the hardest things to find, when on the road, is an authentic home cooked meal. Several restaurants promise this, but few deliver. M&M diner is one of those rare exceptions. This charming little eatery sits across from a school, in a little white house that’s been converted to a restaurant. The tables don’t match, and there are different kinds of chairs mixed throughout the cozy dining room. It’s a quaint and welcoming place, decorated with toys and store displays of M&M candies. The staff is friendly, and truly appreciates the business. M&M Diner might be as far from fancy as can be, but the food is the real reason to go. M&M diner serves breakfast and lunch, with their mainstay being a lunchtime meat and three. There are two choices each day for the meat ranging from fried chicken, catfish, meatloaf, roast beef and the like. The three vegetables are all southern staples like pinto beans, corn, mashed potatoes, green beans and more. It’s topped off with either a roll or cornbread. The food is beyond wonderful. Their menu also includes burgers and fries, and a few quick choices for sandwiches.
