6) Capitol Building

Albany is the capital of New York; and as is befitting of a capital, it is an architectural gem. Of the historic buildings, the Capitol Building is one of the most beautiful and majestic. It is located on the oldest street in Albany, the first “main street”, and construction took over 3 decades and the efforts of 5 architects to complete. Finished in 1899, the style is described as Romanesque, and offers a visual array of arches, massive walls, and towers; at its peak, the building is roughly 200ft (about 67m) high. The building cost a whopping $25 million dollars, but once you stand in front of its white granite and marble façade, you’ll be suitably impressed. An interesting fact about the building is that it was originally designed to have a dome, but there wasn’t enough money to complete that plan.
