7) Jenny Jump State Forest
A little creepy but still picturesque, this place in Warren County is popular for campers and hikers alike. Said to take its name from a failed suicide attempt, the story is half of the interest. Jenny wished for an unwanted suitor to stay away on the morning of her wedding, and threatened to jump off a cliff to stop his advances. He continued, and she jumped. And survived, remarkably. True or not, it’s a popular story in the region, and adds something more to the already beautiful forest. Cabins are open all year round, and the hikes are challenging but not too strenuous. You get to see some incredible parts of New Jersey’s nature as you walk through the heart of the state. Most beautiful, though a little chilly in fall, this State Forest is one you cannot miss.
