8) Indianapolis Moon Tree

Putting a man on the moon was one of the greatest achievements in the history of the world. This feat becomes more astounding, in each passing year, as the realization of just how much ingenuity and dedication it took to get there with such limited technology. One monument to these first steps into space is the Moon Tree at the Indiana State House. The Moon Tree was planted in 1976 as part of America’s Bicentennial celebration. The seed was from a batch that was taken to the moon in 1971 during the Apollo 14 mission, as part of a study to see what effects space might have on them. It turns out that there weren’t any adverse effects. The tree is indistinguishable from any other of its kind. The only thing that hints at its time in space is a plaque placed there, at the time of its dedication.
