3) Elon
Home to Elon University, Elon is another small town with a population of nine thousand. Much like Davidson, you’ll find the city roaring with academics and students. The city’s education system is also supported by four local public schools, which are part of the Alamance-Burlington School System. Elon also has an excellent bus system, known as Biobus. The best thing about Biobus is that it’s not exclusive to the university students. In fact, it’s the most popular mode of transport for the general public, and the university staff alike, but you don’t even have to get onto the Biobus every time. The small (four square miles) area of Elon means you can live here perfectly well with just a bicycle. As for violent crime, it’s an extremely rare (or almost nonexistent) occurrence in Elon. Last year’s average was 0.20 per one thousand people. That’s two crimes for the whole town of Elon.
