This European city surprisingly won’t cost you a small fortune. Don’t worry – you won’t be sacrificing anything by picking Portugal over France or Italy. Porto is one of the most underrated and laid-back European cities. It oozes with culture, architecture, history, and of course, Port wine. Visit the beautiful Porto Cathedral, Crystal Palace Gardens, the iconic Dom Luis Bridge. The Sao Bento Railway Station is a must, not for travel purposes, but to admire the 20,000 white and blue painted wall tiles created over a century ago. Stroll Avenida dos Aliados, the main drag, and take in the cafes, restaurants, and shops. The best part is all these attractions are free. Something that is worth paying for is a Port Wine Tasting Tour. Visit three wineries for under $15 if you opt for the most basic tasting package. Decent, apartment-style, accommodations can be found starting under $40/night. Porto is calling!
