11) Morocco
The captivating clash of Arabic, French, and Berber (desert) culture puts Morocco at the top of many travelers’ bucket lists. Some of Morocco’s most iconic sites – Marrakech’s Old Medina, and Casablanca’s Habous Quarter and Hassan II Mosque – are completely free to wander around. Local food in an above average restaurant runs around $10, depending on what you order. The middle-eastern meets European style cuisine is delicious, healthy, and rarely disappointing. Traditional riads offer very decent, beautifully decorated rooms with free breakfast for $30/night. What is worth shelling out some extra cash for is an overnight trip to the Sahara Desert. Round-trip transportation, two meals, camel ride, and campsite accommodation starts at $70 USD. This also includes several pit-stop-turned-day-trip tours in traditional kasabas along the way. You may need to spend a little extra on some awesome souvenirs from these one-of-a kind villages. But, it’s totally worth it.
