3) Siem Reap, Cambodia

The only other country on this list giving Vietnam a run for its money in terms of affordability is Cambodia. It’s just about as cheap as it gets. Everywhere in Cambodia accepts U.S. dollars, meaning you won’t lose money on currency exchange! While the entire country is wonderful, Siem Reap is a city that should be on everyone’s bucket list for one major reason: Angkor Wat. The largest religious monument in the world, built on 402 acres, boasts the best example of classic Khmer style architecture. The Hindu-turned-Buddhist place of worship is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and an overwhelmingly awesome place. Surviving financially in Siem Reap is easy. Local food and beer is comparable to Vietnam at $5 and $2, respectively. If you eat street stall food, it’s even cheaper. Dorm beds start at $5/night, basic three-star guesthouses at $17/night, and comfortable, chic four-star hotels at $25/night.
