2) Oreland
Another CDP with a population similar to that of Penn Wynne, Oreland is located on the northern side of Philadelphia, close to Chestnut Hill and Mount Airy. Part of Springfield Township, Oreland is infused with history. Lime mining has been carried out in Oreland since the 17th century and George Washington’s headquarters during the Revolutionary War are located nearby. Oreland is rated as an ‘exceptionally liveable’ place by AreaVibes and it’s easy to see why. Crime rates in Oreland are almost 70 percent lower than the state average and the high school graduation rate is 10 percent higher. The amenities in the area are so-so, it really depends what you’re used to, but the public transport links are good and it’s only about 40 minutes to the big city of brotherly love, Philadelphia. The cost of living in Oreland is reasonable for a place that scores so highly on all other liveability markers, just 24 percent higher than the state average.
