5) Southwest Harbor, Maine
Located on Mount Desert Island on the southwestern side, Southwest Harbor is a great place for those seeking quiet enjoyment. Arcadia National Park offers spectacular views and abundant nature. It’s one of the most visited parks in the United States. There are abundant activities on the island as well. You can rent a boat and go off on your own, or hop on one of the island cruises. There are also scenic flights over the island and surrounding vistas, as well as canoeing, kayaking and whale watching excursions. For a ground view of the island, there are bike rentals to take off on your own tour of its magical beauty. The Charlotte Rhodes Garden and Butterfly Park offers artfully designed gardens with a water’s edge scenery. There are plenty of casual and formal dining choices.
