On the west side of Lake Winnipeg, Gimli is a favorite summertime destination among native Canadians. Known for its pristine, sandy beaches and charming little fishing harbor, Gimli is the most romantic village on the lake and yet one of its best kept secrets. Outdoor adventure activities like ice-fishing, biking and sky-diving are popular in Gimli, as is yachting with the Gimli Yacht Club. The first settlers in Gimli were Icelandic and each year Gimli holds a festival to celebrate their Icelandic heritage.
