7) Tenement Museum
A less known museum in New York, a visit to the Tenement Museum will satisfy all you need to know about immigrants who came to the United States over the last Century or two. Witness a re-creation of how immigrant families lived in New York between 1863 and 1935 at the time Orchard Street represented families from 20 different nations.
Visitors can take a guided tour through the actual apartments of several families who called this particular tenement home and a walking tour around the neighborhood that explains how the immigrants built something from nothing to carve out a life for themselves here in New York’s boroughs.
