7) Alta, Utah
Alta is located in the Wasatch Mountains of Salt Lake City, Utah. Only one of three remaining ski resorts in the US to ban snowboarders, Alta is a strictly two-plank destination. Alta enjoys a revered reputation amongst serious skiers due mainly to its incredible snowfall which comes second only to resorts in Alaska. With a skiable area of 2,200 acres and enjoying an annual average of 540 inches of snowfall, Alta opened in the late 1930s and has been a prime skiing destination ever since. Alta offers endless opportunities for pro-skiers to explore off-the-beaten-track terrain and find great shots that no one has ever seen before. Sometimes Alta gets enough snow in December or even late on in April to make it worth hitting the slopes out of season in the hope of having the place to yourself.
